It seems like so many people today are using crowdfunding to bury their loved ones. I am honestly alarmed at the number of people who need a gofundme account because their spouse, parent, or child passed away.
When you die, will your family be taken care of?
Do you have life insurance? Why or why not?

Yes, I have life insurance because I cannot put that burden on my loved ones. That funeral home salesman will nickle and dime you... to death

My plot is free and I know that I will be buried in Houston Texas, near my grandfather. God knows I love that man!

Embalming, a black suit and a coffin and flowers. That's it. Pay a minister to say something nice and move on with your lives.

So my brother and I just sat down with an Insurance agent for our dad.
My dad wants cremation and during the meeting the agent mentioned that the white funeral homes are lowering their prices to steal the business.

That they will setup shop right in the hood . And they only charge $500 or $600. They know that alot of black communities have families that don't have anything setup when someone passes.

Also it came up that alot of the black funeral homes don't have a crematorium. So they have to use the white funeral homes.

Not sure if this the case all over the US. But it wouldn't surprise me. It was a real enlightening conversation.

More and more people are moving towards cremation and so the funeral homes are most likely going to start charging more.

The increase in deaths due to the pandemic has push the cremation trends.

I‘m torn on the cremation vs burial topic. I feel like cremation is the most economical option but it’s the least ceremonial so I would ask my family to cremate me but im sure theyll end up burying me.

I totally get it. I at first was against it too. But my dad and I kept talking about it. And he showed me how you can still have a nice service. YouTube really has everything lol and I was able to see how people did differnt cremation services. Even "renting" a casket for the service. Make everybody else think it's a burial. But once it's over. The body goes to the crematorium

    My perceptions have changed.

That's pretty slick. I think when I pass I'ma let my family do whatever they want to find peace. I'm not gonna be anywhere near my old body, I'ma be sneaking up on them in the afterlife turning on lights and water faucets.

I couldn't find the thread that already talked about this, but how many of ya'll got life insurance policies? I'm gonna finally get one and was curious who ya'll went to with your business. I keep hearing that you can get good ones for less than a 100 dollars a month.
I've WHOLE LIFE & TERM LIFE insurance. Going to insure my adult children & grandchildren soon. Just because you're young, doesn't mean you shouldn't cover yourself. WHOLE LIFE is the best. TERM LIFE has stipulations & even if you want to cancel, you get no refund.
I'm actually going to upgrade to a TRUST. It can't be changed by anyone, so there would be no confusion, conflict, family feuds, shenanigans or nonsense.

I do not but I plan on getting it when I get married for sure. I feel like anyone who is over the age of 35 and married should have it. You don't want to be stuck or left for dirt if something bad happens.
I had insurance on ALL my children & grandchildren, The Gerber Life Plan.
When they were ready for college, they totally had what they needed. My youngest grandson Pearson, is nearly 9 months old & he's been covered since day one.
I'm about to purchase WHOLE LIFE insurance for my adult children & my adult grandson.
In this day & time, you can't be naive about anything! Especially, with these Anti-Black murderers eliminating our people for nearly 500 years! 💯

My dear Grandparents & Parents taught me all I know. My Grandmothers taught me to be an entrepreneur from age 5. Agriculture, making preservatives, ice cream, cheeses, butter, caring for the animals on their farms, etc. The only time we went to the store was for toilet paper, nothing else. My adult children, adult grandson & their friends know ALL I know. It doesn't stop there.
My husband & I want to start a platform. He's a Marine (Special Ops), former L.A.County Sherrif, former CIA & FBI, DeKalb County P.D. & CEO of Cash Flow Enterprises, Computer Programmer & Network Engineer.
I'm a Jack of All Trades as well. Worked for Huey P. Newton & The Black Panter Party from age 7, My Uncle Williams restaurant, Chicken-A-Go-Go, adjacent to The San Francisco Black Panther Party Headquarters, babysitter, tutor, landscaper, errands for elders, cooked, washed cars, delivered The Black Panther Party Newspapers, The Chronicle, The Examiner, Seamstress, Librarian, Athlete, Bowler, Swimmer, Self Defense, Hunter, Fisher, Scholar, Limousine Driver, Tour Bus Driver, Telephone Operator, Asst. Mgr. (ARC), Computer Programmer (IBM/Wang), Executive Secretary (USPS), Mail Carrier & Retired San Francisco Transit Operator.

That is impressive! You have had so much purpose and fulfillment. No wonder you have such a straight head on your shoulders. Knowing all that stuff, kids and young adults don't learn that these days. It is a shame!

I'm confident that with all the knowledge I've passed down so far, it'll spread like wild fire & generations won't be lost & know what must be done to thrive & survive.
