This is too true. The ability to be anonymous on top of the safety of a screen between people brings the worst out of people. The bots are just another ingredient in the hectic mess of social media.I was going to say the same thing. Social media is TOXIC. You have people coming together in one space who have very different worldviews and beliefs and this ends up creating hivemind pockets and if fuels things like sexism, racism, homophobia, and so on. It only created more destruction because it elevates people to treat each other horribly for not agreeing.
This is likely not being helped by bots but would still be an issue without them.
I think they just take advantage of this to spread bad ideas and be jerks to other people. They say and do things online they would not do in real life and feel no remorse over it.This is too true. This is true. If you are on Twitter and have thin skin, everything will get to you. I have had people (when I was still on there) say the dumbest things to me when I didn't agree with them, they would resort to attacks on how you look, your grammar, and anything else they can find. Like a bunch of middle-school-aged bullies.You've got to have a tough skin to be able to interact on most social media platforms. The worst of it all has got to be Twitter with folks saying things they can't say to my face! The Bots simply amplified these issues, if you ask me.
This is why you hardly see me on Twitter. I can go on 3 months without opening my Twitter application. The level of toxicity on Twitter is probably the worst of all the social media platform combined. They are too busy suppressing anti-government and anti-LGBT stuff to care about anything else. Maybe that will change now that Elon bought Twitter but I highly doubt it. A few years ago my dad decided to sign up for Twitter so he can follow some sports players and other things he was interested in. He didn't plan on posting on the site or anything. He must have gotten 3 to 5 messages a week from some of those porn bots. Heck, I remember getting some too and they were so terrible they assumed I was some horny dude!Bots are definitely a huge problem on social media, every once in a while I get fake profiles trying to add me. Plus I see them posting on local news pages posting spam. But I agree that social media is toxic even without counting the bots. Forums will always be superior to social media IMO.
