Do you think charities give the money to those in need?

I hope the majority of charities out there are honest and about helping others. Reason why I bring it up, is because so many charity organizations have been outed for using funds for their own use and gains. I imagine some charities still get away with this. Is there a better way to donate money to the actual causes instead of the organizations collecting? I don't make a lot, but I wouldn't mind helping with some charities.

    No I do not.

There are some that do, but I believe that most to be aloof hole to make tax free money. And I try not to be a negtive thinking person.
I’ve researched some charities and some only give 5% of the donations to the cause. A lot of straight scams that’s why I don’t donate if I don’t know how it’s going to be used. You see all these things on checkout asking to donate you change to difference causes…nope give me my $0.30.

I just say no automatically without even thinking. I just know somebody is pocketing that money and laughing all the way to the bank.

Think about how much they are making off of it too. Every transaction at a national grocery store gets the prompt then the charity gives the chain their cut. They are most likely raking in the dough.

Just got back from the grocery store, saw the prompt and laughed thinking about this thread.

The prompt I got said “do you want to donate money to struggling families for thanksgiving?”

I hit the terminal with this face:

The big ones? No. I never felt they did. One of the biggest scams out there is the Susan G. breast cancer campaign. I see a whole hell of a lot of people who got rich around that cause. I can't remember where I read it cause it was a while ago but some docs leaked on how the taxation and charity function. I think it is something like 3% has to go toward the cause to be classified as a charity and after taxation, the rest can be pocketed and spent.
