EA Sports will remove the Russian National Team and all Russian club soccer teams from its FIFA video game franchise, and remove all Russian and Belarusian hockey teams from the latest NHL video game franchise, the gaming developer announced on Wednesday.

Why it matters: The sports world's rebuke of the invasion signals a swift rebuke of the Russian government. The Ukrainian government has also called on video game companies and esports operators to bar Russian gamers and esports teams.

Of note: The International Ice Hockey Federation has banned Russia and Belarus from competitions.

What they're saying: "EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine," the developer wrote in a statement.

EA sports wrote the move is "in line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA[.]" The two soccer governing bodies on Monday suspended Russia's national and club teams from all international competition.

In my opinion, a lot of companies, games, and establishments will begin removing Russian-based teams, games, products, etc. I honestly don't believe Putin had even considered the consequences of invading Ukraine. In most recent news articles, Mcdonald's has closed all their locations in Russia, Coca-Cola is no longer offering their products in Russia, and various other franchise-type businesses are closing in Russia. Russia's economy has drastically gone downhill after their invasion of Ukraine, and various other punishments have been given. I don't believe Russia will ever be able to recover from the decision to invade Ukraine. What bothers me the most, is that there are some Russian citizens who are brainwashed and support the invasion efforts of Russia into Ukraine.

All this shit makes me laugh. Like I am no fan of Russia but they are not punishing Putin doing this nonsense nor his government. They are punishing the people. When I saw that they were banning Russian Blue cats from cat shows, I about pissed myself. I just have to laugh at it all at this point. I am not buying into this "war". This crap was planned. It is old white rich dudes playing a game with themselves.

Personally, I don't really think that it's enough at all because Russia 🇷🇺 is still very much committed to their cause and all these petty sanctions and politics wouldn't change anything.
