I have not yet gone to a drive in theater myself, but I figure with covid these days, it'd be best to go to a drive in theater to see movies. My dad said he went to one when he was a kid, but I don't believe there is one near me. Otherwise I'd check it out. Do they show current movies by any chance? Or do they usually show cult classics and older movies? I always pictured them showing older movies, but if they show the newest movies, I'd be down to go to one.

We had a couple growing up in Dallas. I remember my mom taking me and my rbother to see Die Hard on the big screen at the Drive In in Oak Cliff. I lived in Tulsa a few years and they had ancient one that had to be replaced after it burned down. One of Tulsa's claim to fame (that white folks will acknowledge) is that the theater is featured in both the Outsiders, and UHF--to which I say, "whatever."

Yup, we used to go to them all the time when I was younger. 40+ years ago. I liked the drive-in's way better then theater's.
honestly, that's probably the only way I would go see something on the big screen. between germal warfare and the Batman killer, I can't even see myself relaxing enough to enjoy the movie--even if I were sitting near the exits.

Yea it was something about being in your own space, almost like camping for 2 hours. My mom had a station wagon, there were 4 of us (kids) and she'd park it backwards so we could lay in the back with pillows and sleeping bags to enjoy the movie, plus you could bring anything you wanted to eat from home.

Nice! I imagine seeing Die Hard was a fun experience. lol yeah, not sure why that's anything to go crazy over. I'm sure there's been a few drive in theaters featured in films.

It's less packed and you don't have to sit next to people you don't know. Which is why I think it's perfect with Covid being a problem. Would at least cover the social distancing aspect at least.

That's what I imagine it feels like. Not dealing with anyone else aside from who's in the car with you. Being able to speak loud if you want to, eat your own food, etc. Sounds perfect to me.

As a young Kid we use to go to the drive end all the time. When I was a teenager, we would smuggle others into the drive end by having them hide in the trunk of the car. The last drive end that I went to, was with my children and grandmother we went to see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre after the movie was over, my grandmother told me never to take her to a movie like that ever again.

They’re are actually very cozy and convenient. I just hate how now you have to keep your car on because they feed the sound through the radio. When I was young they used to put a speaker on your window.

Yes that is true. I remember when they changed and had it run through your car radio, people can never stop fixing what is not broken. The Drive in that we went to was the biggest in Indianapolis, IN, it was double-sided and each side ran 3 movies each. You could be there into the sun came up, because they would repeat them. It had a playground so that the children could play until it got dark enough for the movie to start playing.

I also remember we I was coming up you could pay one price to get into the movie theaters and you could watch movies all day, you didn't have to leave after the movie was over. Those were the good old days

You can still do it provided the theater doesn't have assigned seats (Thank you, AMC!) There have been plenty of times when I (allegedly, in case the feds are watching) paid for a matinee and stuck around for an extra movie or two. As soon as my movie ended, I'd pimp into another screening. Easy work.
