Fasting, anyone do it for weight loss?

I'm probably going to have to lose some weight soon, as I'm probably due for that. I keep hearing from a friend that I should try fasting to kind of push my body into a rhythm to help with weight loss. I honestly don't know if I can handle fasting for a long period of time. I would give it a try, but I know if I don't eat for a certain amount of days, I'm going to get the cravings and get food.

Does fasting work? Has it worked for you? What are your recommendations for starting out?

The 12 hour fast is pretty easy, most of us have had to do it before getting a physical or having blood drawn. Maybe you can use that as your starting point, and then move to a fasting for longer periods of time.

I've done 12-12 and 16-8 schedules. Longest I've fasted was 72 hours. I did it for weight loss at the time. Now I do it so that I don't get to a space where I'm over-eating again. I've forced myself to change my relationship with food. It's a source of sustenance and nourishment with infrequent and occasional comfort as opposed to being comfort and or boredom.

    I did fasts when I was younger. My father is big on them and still does a fast once a month. He does a 48 hour water fast. The longest fast I did was a 15 day liquid fast. The first 3 days were the hardest. I think fasting overall is more about resetting the body than it is about weight loss.

    If you want to lose weight, do calorie cycling instead. This is where you go up and down with your calories. So like you eat 2,000 for 2 or 3 days, then 1,500 for 2 or 3 days. You have to adjust it to your needs but it allows you to trick your body into burning fat. Look it up! Do fasting in conjunction with this to curb cravings and bust out food addictions (sugar, msg, etc.).

    I have tried fasting in the past, but couldn't stick with it for long. I'm not patient enough when it comes to eating. If I have to wait a long period of time to eat, I'm not going to be very happy. I can fast to some extent, but I always get to a point where I just want to eat.

    Then again, I probably don't really need to do fasting myself, but I wouldn't mind trying to get into it some more.

    Nice! I might give it a try again myself. That sounds like it might trick your body some, and I hear that often works with weight loss.

    I would not do water or liquid only for a long time. It is just not balanced. At least a small meal, mostly veggies is a little better.

    Nice! I might give it a try again myself. That sounds like it might trick your body some, and I hear that often works with weight loss.
    Let me know how it works out for you if you give it a try. If you want to lose some serious weight, give the slow-carb diet a try. My mom did that and lost like 15 pounds in 3 weeks. It was nuts.

    As a weight management nurse, I'd advise against it.

    You're not going to make substantial gains doing that.

    I used to weigh 220 and I went down to 150 I actually remember the nation of islam eat once a day I eat once a day in the morning when I'm hungry I eat fruits and vegetables and nuts I stop eating altogether around 5pm I workout a hour a day I drink Chinese tea with a little bit of cayenne pepper it helps stops food craving if u do it lomg enough it won't bother u at all and stay as active as possible take dietary supplements the weight should come off
