What are some games that were not "popular" per se, or maybe just not well known to you at the time of their release, that you took a chance on and were pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was.

Where i live there's not that many women who play "underground/non-popular" games, that's why i said i was curious. I thought you could be a game blogger, that kinda stuff.

Ohhhh I see. You should have led with that!! I can understand that. Well here in the United States, women playing video games has become pretty common in the last 15-20 yrs or so. Now to your point, I have been gaming since before it was cool for girls to be doing it. But today, it's like "oh cool what games you got?"

Yeah but not underground games the ladies be playing surface level games maybe a Mario kart here or there.

I don't know if I would call it a hidden gem but it is certainly dated. I still play Roller Coaster Tycoon. I love the game. I first played it way back in like 2001 or something when we got a computer. It was my first PC game and I still have fun with it. I ended up getting it on Steam when it went on sale several years back. A newer game that was based on it came out a few years ago and I got that as well, Parkitect. I do enjoy it a lot but the OG still has my heart. lol

Definitely true of the old gen stuff. With the exception of Rogue Galaxy and Scarface:TWIY, I found the PS2 games after they were already released for a while.

Oh Roller Coaster Tycoon was DEFINITELY a hidden gem!!!!! That was the HEIGHT of SimCity popularity. It was a more hyper-focused approach to that concept. Instead of running a whole city which is more wider scale, it's just a park with a business approach! I loved that game. It got me into playing the Sims.

Yea the only person i've seen playing games was my sister back in the day lol, but she doesn't do it anymore. But i imagine in the US must be way more common.

Night and day pretty much. Wasn't when I first started as a kid in the 80s but definitely since the late 90s early 2000s

It's cool. Basically the games my father used to buy for me. Started with sega genesis then years later i was pc exclusive. I remember this game called Blood, so violent idk how my father allowed us to play that shit.
My sister used to play a lot of The sims around 2002 - 2003.

When I get in the mood, I STILL play my sims games haha. Never heard of Blood but I was heavy on violent games too growing up. All 3 Mortal Kombat games, Street Fighter, and that sort. When I was in my PC phase, I played Doom 1, 2 and 3, Wolfenstein, Blake Stone and the Aliens of Gold, and Duke Nukem. Back then no one was trying to imitate what they saw in video games or TV.

For my experience growing up, I had other outlets and extra curricular activities. I wasn't just gaming all day every day. I also had involved parents who set the tone in the household (despite being helicoptery more times than not). These kids today, some of them are practically raising themselves and all they have are video games and their parents buy them this stuff while not being real active in their lives in an attempt to preoccupy them so that they don't have to actually parent. Then that leads to the kids not being encouraged to be active outside the home and find other creative outlets so in the end, idle hands wind up doing evil deeds.

I saw they got all kinds of mods now for the sims
Do you have kids? Games nowadays are way too real, id not allow any kids to play the latest MK for example.

Same. I started playing the sims shortly after. I still play that (sims 4 at least). Would have loved to figure out how to use blender and make my own items and furniture but I just don't have time for all that with work.

Duke Nukem 1, 2, and 3D were my favorites. I had the Atomic and Plutonium packs for DN3D and still remember all the lines. I remember getting caught by my mom throwing cash at the strip club in the game.
