I think putting in the air is a bit much but I’ve definitely have used the “family emergency“ excuse. I used to also use being sick until the job I was at started requiring Doctor’s notes.

I can't say I have. I mean I wouldn't be able to do something like this. Like, imagine if you did this and your family member legit died. I would feel terrible!
A lady at my old job did this and brought in the funeral program for her grandma. She put on all the theatrics, the tears, and etc. What she didn’t do was update the dates…the funeral program was from 5 years before. When management realized it they fired her.
For real. Then you’d really have to call in sick and have to make up another family member.

They just let it go lol. They needed me anyway because I was good at what I did.
I've thought of actually doing something like this to get out of work, but I always stop myself. I have this weird thing, that maybe karma would get me for lying and it would cause an actual death in the family. I know it's dumb, but it's something I've always thought about when thinking of doing anything like that.

Why a jail excuse? I imagine some people could be fired if they are said to be in jail. They should've said like, at the hospital or something that wouldn't look bad on you. If it worked though, awesome! :D
I worked at a restaurant so it seemed plausible at the time. In hindsight I would have just told them I messed up and thought I had a day off.
