if you think about it, hip hop is probably going to be the last frontier as far as music goes....I don't think we'll live enough to see Blacks create another genre of music. We created blues, then jazz, then Rock N Roll, R & B, Funk, and then Hip Hop.....my brain can't even fathom there's another step in musical evolution......

But that's how it always is. Do you think the average person during the Blues era envisioned R&B or Funk? In the present, the new genres come to fruition as a gradient rather than an instant color shift. It'll also be done by visionaries who can see and craft that future sound, the average person will not be aware of the new genre until it's fully created and labeled.

This is common. It’s like could you ever imagine the iPhone in the era of Blackberry? It was just common knowledge that phones needed every button possible on it and that touch screens required a stylus. You had to be a radical thinker to envision anything outside of that.

I think the cool thing about Rap is the technical prowess required to do it well. Think about it, you need multiple verses at 16 bars and each bar has to rhyme and you can’t repeat verses and if people find out someone else wrote the verse you are ostracized.

Look at the average Nas verse, it has more lyrical content than some entire Rock songs. Then you add in the Hooks and the requirement to rhyme and you have an artform infinitely more challenging to write. Rap needs its flowers, it’s such an awesome genre of music.

Other genres require the ability to have vocal range and perfect pitch but it balances or becomes even easier by not requiring long verses, someone else can write your music, and not having to rhyme.
