Surf or Drown is one of those albums that people bump for a week or two and then totally forget about. While Hit-Boy may have evolved as a Producer, the same cannot be said for him as an MC.

I had no idea this was coming out. I’m going to listen before I read the review.

Hit-Boy should have chose more established artist to be on his album. More boom bap artist of yesterday other than Nas might have helped but I don't know what the budget was. The production was excellent the rappers chosen,not so much. I may have to listen to it again.

I think the problem is that lyrically he cannot hold an entire album on his own hence why every song has a guest. But let’s say he went with a bunch of A-listers, it will create too big of a disparity between his bars and theirs.

I believe the guests were cool and wouldn’t have been an issue if he had stronger verses. It was like one snooze verse and then a mid tier verse on most songs. Even Nas’ verse was mid.
