How do you think the average white person would respond to this?

I heard about a college teacher (I believe it was at a college though it may have been a high school) who asked a room full of students, most of which were white, a simple question. He asked if the students were alive in the time period where slavery was acceptable, would they disagree and oppose it. Everyone raised their hands to show they would. He then asked if they would share something about themselves that goes against society's norms and would cause most people to look at them differently, hate them, or completely shun them from society. None of them could do it.

The point he was making is that most people today who believe they would oppose something like this would go along with it because they seek to be acceptable in society. They would not be willing to risk anything for someone else's safety or comfort. They are not free-thinkers but do-as-I-sayers. I reflect with this story heavily on the white liberals in the US who go out of their way for BLM and other black causes, they want to make it known to everyone that they stand for black empowerment but they do so only because it is considered to be socially acceptable (and heavily encouraged) in today's social climate. They are doing it for themselves, not for us.

What are your thoughts on this?

I knew right away when that question was asked, that they don't know how they would have acted back then, because back then they would have been completely different people, raised in a completely different time. They wouldn't know what the future holds, don't have computers or the knowledge, so their current mentality would be moot in this point. They also will be shut off from the world, because no internet or way to get your views out there. So they can't see what the world is like in those times like we can see how the world is today. Does that makes sense?

Back in those days, it was something white people found acceptable, because the laws and the people running things made it so. So if they were to be born in those times, they would fall in line with what everyone else was doing. Sure there may be some white people who go against the grain of the time and fight for civil rights, but it wasn't a lot of white people back then helping out.

I think these kids meant well, but didn't consider who they would have been if they were born in that time. Today kids are taught about the civil rights movement, slavery and more being a horrible time in our history, and I think they know for the most part, right from wrong. But, they can't say for sure who they would be in the past, because they didn't live it.

Figures they would say that. They know they can't answer the question, because they know they probably would have been racists if they were born in that time, hell, most white people were during the time. And yeah, there were a small handful of white people who tried to help back in those days. But that's not the point.

It just shows that these kids completely missed the point of the question. If they actually answered like "Honestly, it's possible I would have been racist back in those days, because we would be taught differently back then, and do things differently." You can say it all you want, that "nah, I wouldn't be racist back then", but in reality, probably 99% of those white kids would have been racist pricks back in those days.

Answering the way they did, just makes them look dumb and kinda racist if anything.

I think they would respond the same way. I know a lot are genuine but a lot just support the BLM and black causes movements because it's trendy. It's like when girls change their bios on IG or TikTok to 'BLM' but never take any other action than that.
You can always tell who is genuine or not by asking one simple question. “What do you think about reparations”. I’ve made many of the most die hard woke liberals turn into a republican.

Exactly. A major white leftist twitch streamer has showed his true colors over the last week by going on and on about how black nationalists are the same as white nationalists.

Facts. The difference between Liberals and Conservatives is in how they want to be white supremacists.

I noticed this. Liberals are manipulated and used for the cause against black and Hispanic people. You see it around voting time the most but they have been used for decades now. With Conservatives, you have two types... The ones who believe the government should be small and leave us alone which I can respect and then the ones that are the same as the Libs who are looking to use and step on anyone to benefit themselves. There are way more of them in politics which is a problem. Both sides are filled with snakes, liars, and crooks.

It goes to show that white people want to look good no matter what. And if you ask them this type of question, they'll answer as if the question was about today, they aren't thinking within the context of the time. They may be brought up to be good boys and girls today, but back then, their mommy and daddy would have taught them stuff of the time, so they most likely would end up racists douche bags anyway.

That is absurd, I can’t imagine the mental gymnastics needed to make that conclusion work.

This is true. but not for everyone there are people that think different to whom this doesn't apply. They aren't do as I sayer's.

I think the typical white person would respond the same way as them. Bunch of liars.

I definitely agree. They hide their racism. It is so easy to tell since they are so quick to think the worst of us.

The small number of White folks who truly tried to help us were ostracized from their own people.
