I'll try to be balanced. The HBCUs are grossly underfunded. Also, because we are the most underserved population, we have far more students needing financial aid than most PWIs (predominantly white institutions). Therefore we don't have as many students on average who can pay their way.
That being said, the administrations at most HBCUs are old school boys and girls club of bougie Blacks. They don't run the school well. The senior administrators are overpaid. Furthermore, we don't as a people support the school financially as we should. These are OUR schools. Legacy of great people, who all blacks no matter who you are, if you are on code, should be supporting. Our schools are and have been colleges and universities serving the diaspora and native Africans and frankly all parties should be doing more. They show love via admissions to all Blacks.
We need new, dynamic blood who are more selfless and the schools need to be more in line with the B1 philosophy frankly. Stop trying to please white folks and start trying to be part of this thing we got going on here and in other spaces.
BC should have let Reed have his rant and look at the long term, bigger picture. He was good for the school overall but the school leadership looked at him as one of 'them' negroes. I am sure. They are boule` and by nature want to cater to whites and the establishment. This class of blacks have been in power of the HBCUs at their height when all the best of black people went there and they had the best students and athletes. They managed it while it declined. And no idea how to recover. But as a collective they will not relinquish control to those outside their class.
I'll be damn........like somethin out of a got damn ponzi scheme....
