Ok so it seems there has long been concerns about the legitimacy as it pertains to citizenship of the residents of the northeastern state of Asamm. So a citizens registry was started in attempt to trace back residency beyond 1971. 1971 is the year that Bangladesh, the border country, was founded & it seems there is concern that millions of the people residing in Asamm may at some point simply have migrated (❓) into the region. Detractors see it as harassment & an attempt to deport the Muslim population in that region. Somewhat controversial because many people may not have documents that date back 10-50 decades.
