I feel grieved a bit. I had a big falling out with a good friend in my tiny prep community about water collection. This person is what we call in our circles boule. I spent years trying to educate my crew on the collapse and what it's going to be like, and how we can be as sufficient as we can in the burbs in case SHTF. Here in FL, it's been unseasonably dry like in many places across the nation, not even an old tropical depression. I started discussing water catchment in the event city services are disrupted (none of us have a well and we live close to brackish water which is undrinkable), which would be collecting rainwater and developing something that can be placed on the house to get it into our barrels that I purchased. My friend said she ain't drinking no roof water. I asked her if she would not drink water from the sky that can be filtered, even if it had some roof sediment that could be filtered (and I have that stuff too). She said no. So I basically (and truthfully) said I guess I'll be watching ya'll die then because we really have no other sources of water should the bottled water get used up and city water stops working.

She interpreted my comments as I would watch her and her kids die because of her choice. She totally missed how I crafted away for us to live, even if we had to drink some filtered water for a season. We had a big blow-up. She was disrespectful to me in front of her kids. I was done.

I'm an old woman. My kids are grown. She's my age but had kids late. They are all still at home. Our group preps include keeping everyone in the group safe and alive by any means.

I'm finding it really difficult to get folks to understand where this country is headed and what we might have to do to survive in small groups/pockets. We've been friends for a while, but I'm reckoning with maybe some folks in my group really aren't good people to be with in hard times. I find people in the North who haven't spent any time in the South or on the Southern struggle are "different" when it comes to prepping. I live in FL alone, so I don't want to be surrounded by people who aren't on the same level if SHTF. I'm considering moving back home to be around survivors.

Is anyone else struggling with breaking up with people, spouses, or boos? Stuck on teams with people who don't see the writing on the wall? How are you coping, what are you doing?

I haven’t had any break ups because I don’t give a hoot if someone listens to me. We’ve heard “the world is ending” speech for so long. I’m up there in age and remember the Jehovah’s Witnesses scaring me to death as child because I thought the world was going to end in 1977.

So I understand people’s apprehension and I’ve made peace with knowing that one day they may be knocking on my door begging for resources and I may have to watch them die. It is what it is. Failure to plan, is planning to fail.

I feel ya. I'm there too. I never listened to those religious folks either. The end of the world and the end of an empire can be (and not be the same thing). I have made peace with those who don't listen to me or who put their faith in things working. Folks just assume folks are going to go to work and run grocery stores when the SHTF or the water treatment folks are going to be on point and available. We forget people work for entities that don't care, so when the time comes for them to make the choice, many will walk away and systems will fail.

Even those scary racist cops will bail when things get too bad and you won't have any protection, not that we had any. When society collapses, especially in large cities, things are going to change fast. Americans take peace and prosperity a little too seriously for my liking. There are folks who are ready to knock up to third-world status.

We saw how vicious people were over toilet paper, imagine a food shortage. Those who called guns evil and asked the government to take them will be target practice. It’s going to get ugly and I think it will be sooner than any us anticipate.

I don’t know what answer fits me because they all sound salty. I’m indifferent to all of it I feel. I grew up around a bunch of family and friends who didn’t think any further than “RIGHT NOW” and I became numb to it.

So I would say “I changed my circle” but I did it 30 years ago when I realized I was a long term thinker around a bunch if niggas living for the moment.

These same people are older and living for the moment and they will be assed out when the supply chain goes to shit.

There’s about 2 or 3 family members I’ll let rock but everyone else has to fend for themselves.

I am trying to warn people still. I mean I got a few friends to at least stock up on water. My mom has always been the type to be prepared so she has a stockpile. Always have had one since I was little. There is nothing wrong with being prepared but they used terms like "conspiracy theorists and "prepper" as slurs to make people feel stupid or something for wanting to be prepared for things like this.

At this point, I will only guide people so much but if the storm hits, don't expect to be knocking on my door with your hands out. I am saving enough for me and a few others as well as my cats.

This is a great answer and a similar story to my own. I left all the bums in the past where they belong. I only keep in contact with a few and they all are thorough and solid.

I haven’t broken up with anyone because I don’t put much expectation on people nowadays. I actually go out of my way to NOT put expectation on people so that they don’t have an opportunity to disappoint me.

If I know you’re not the type to prep I won’t even waste time talking to you about it. We all make our choices and will have to reap the consequences.

I don't have this problem with my friends/family. Everyone is thinking ahead and preparing in some way.

Not sure if it's too late for advice here, but there are ways to create a fake roof out of plastic tarp and other non-roofing materials. No roof sediments in sight. Maybe suggest those ways? The good thing about some stubborn folks is that they encourage you to think outside the box.

😂😂 it's too late but thanks for the tip. That was my initial plan to use plastic, but nobody have time to be splainin stuff to folks who didn't think to do it too begin with.

I'm definitely thinking about alternatives. Bad thing is folks like that waste so much time being contrary instead of bringing solutions.

I only deal with solutions oriented people for that reason. Niggas that only got time to think about why something can’t work instead of thinking of how to make it work are a barrier to progress. They also never seem to have any ideas of their own, only criticism.

I've definitely put distance between myself and 90% of my family and friends. Im tired of wasting my breath. They are not preparing at all. Just partying (old as shit too), hoeing, and living their best lives. I will not be a lifeline when SHTF.
