My father said something to me when I was younger than changed my perspective on the genre...

He said to think of what constitutes a healthy and happy life and then ask yourself if hip-hop and rap promotes that or removes that.

In most cases it removes it. It use to be about struggle, realism, poetry, telling stories... now it is just unhinged thuggery and ratchet behavior. Kids eat this crap up too and it just hurts the black family unit more. I think the people at the top know this too.

I think it is…Black people don’t control any part of the financing which gives the small hats the ability to say “hey this is what they created on the own in the studio”. When in fact they would have not been funded or distributed or promoted by same small hats if they didn’t produce the overly violent and anti Black music.

I also think it’s important to clarify that it’s not anti Black in the sense that it is racist. It’s anti Black in that it promotes negative depictions of who we are.

It is also anti-black in nature as it promotes behavior that destroys black people's lives. It isn't just what it makes our people appear as but tricks them into behaving as. It is all with ill intent too.

There's a bunch of truth in what Malcolm is saying... me being a Gen X'er, back in the day, we had Eazy E & NWA... but on that same token, we had Poor Righteous Teachers & Paris... we also had 2 Live Crew & Too Short, but, we had Public Enemy & Rakim... on the female side, we had Lil Kim & Foxy Brown, but, we also had MC Lyte & Lauren Hill... my point is that there's no balance in Hip Hop and that's the problem...

Hip hop has gotten way worse. I only listen to underground (aka independent) artists.

Yes. This hurts our global reputation. Because people hear our music and automatically think the worst things about us.

Yes. Our biggest people in the game are all controlled because of the dirt they have on them.

I wish we would support more of the independent artists.
