Did you guys hear about how the new Modern Warfare 2 game comes with just the license for the game? Well the PS5 version only 70MB on the disc, which is likely just the license for the game to work, so that it can download the actual game. I believe this is going to happen for the Xbox version as well.

To me, this is confirming that physical media is going to be done for soon. We already see Nintendo Switch games coming out with a physical release that just has a slip in it with a code to download the game. It's going to eventually result in digital only in the future. Sure maybe Limited Run games will still make physical releases, but I really think we're nearing an end of physical media. At least when it comes to video games, and movies. I can still see people buying vinyl to get the best sound for their music.

Do you guys think we're nearing a future where we're only going to be able to get our games digitally?

100% yes, disc games and media are going out of style. Even disc games aren't even loaded on the disc anymore; when you put the disc into the gaming system you're literally just putting in a card to unlock the digital version of the game. Even the disc games are digitalized, and It's about time they just totally get rid of disc games alltogether because they're pretty much obsolete. But they could keep around for a bit longer to appeal to the people who enjoy collecting disc games.

I really hope this isn’t the case, physical is better than digital imo. As long as I have a console to pay my physical games I’m good. Digital versions over time can be removed from shops, plus I like having a physical game collection. I guess I’m old school, but I know there are other people like me.

I don't like it but it is being phased out.

The reason I don't like this is because they will be able to track everything you own and buy but also, you own no real physical copy of anything. I think this will end up being a regret for a lot of people in the future. I am still keeping physical copies of everything I enjoy, even if that means burning CDs ins 2022! lol

And this connects to the subject of money also becoming digitalized, and the problems you've listed here are going to be problems with money becoming digital only too. It's a scary future

Yeah if everything is handled online, that means anyone can control it and war will be digitized. It already somewhat is. If Russia wanted to hurt the US, they could just attack our weak power structures and millions would die.
