So I listen to a lot of different people in independent media.
I think one of the most important things is being able to think critically and think on your own.
That means sometimes being able to disagree. While I feel most of the people in the new black media are all well meaning and have the best interest of the black community at heart, sometimes I hear people speak without thinking about what they are saying.

This leads to commentary that is incorrect or doesn't make a lot of sense.

Tariq Nasheed always seems well versed and has thought about what he is saying. I rarely if ever disagree with his commentary.

TD Hip Hop media is also well researched. He looks up facts and stats before making a video.

Prof Black Truth also comes across as well researched.

There are others though that are just going off the fly and saying whatever comes to mind it seems. Philip Scott while I enjoy his commentary is an example. He double talks and says contradicting things from one video to the next.

The Black Authority is another example. While I find value in his work I feel like he is just saying whatever thought comes to mind at the moment.

    Just my opinion!

That’s very interesting because I think kind of contrary to you. Tariq seems the least researched to me out of the big 3 TBA, PBT, and Tariq. He is more likely to push conspiracy theories and as some other poster stated use terms like “people say” to not have to hold himself to something he is saying. TBA actually allows you to call him up so if people disagree they can call in and do so. I believe that right there shows that he stands by the hat he believes more than others. I don’t watch Phil Scott enough to know if he contradicts himself.

Yes that's true but the problem with TBA is that when someone disagrees he insults them then hangs up on them.

I've only seen a few times where he allows a person disagreeing to speak their point and that's usually if they are soft spoken and very uninformed!

Tariq just seems to be careful with what he is saying. He does slip up here and there though on certain facts.

Philip Scott does the same to people. He blocks people that disagree too hard.

He only does call ins here and there but he is good on debate but just sometimes says incorrect information!

I’ve noticed this too. He lets you get a sentence or two out and then keeps interrupting you over and over again until he hangs up. It’s very rare that he lets someone get a complete thought out which is annoying.

I believe that each have something to offer and you take what you can use and discard what you can't. I view them as:
    • The Black Authority, the uncompromising B1 take.
    • Professor Black Truth, the professorial B1 take.
    • Tariq Nasheed, the funny/not so academic B1 take.
    • Phil Scott, the sorta panafrican/sorta B1 take.
For me, TBA is going to give me the most "down the middle" take. Tariq has highs and lows...he is on point when he spits from the ancestors but when he doesn't have that to go off of he turns into the Black Alex Jones.

Professor Black Truth is all "down the middle" but he has no entertainment value. You have to really sit down and prep yourself for a lecture when you listen to him. Phil Scott is great too I haven't really seen him contradict himself outside of maybe him getting caught up between B1 and panafricanism. He tries to hold on to a dead ideology...he wants to shame us but he can't so he's like stuck in the phantom zone.

He's gotten a lot better at this over the years. I remember about 5 years ago the phone line was basically a "call to get insulted" line and it was unbearable. He gives callers too short of a rope to hang themselves with. Even if he knows the caller is using a logical fallacy he should let it play out for the audience so we can see the error in the caller's thinking. Instead, he shuts it down instanenously and we're like:

these are all interesting perspectives. I always pushed independent thought. They all offer some value even if I don't always agree with them. And honestly, I don't agree with ANYONE 100% of the time and that's okay.
Absolutely. Thinking on your own is the key.
I view them as a starting point. Something to it the wheels turning and then I'll research more on my own.

I saw Phil make a video saying not to name someone specific because it's giving them free media advertising.

There are like 50 or more videos of him doing just that!

Then he made a video saying the racial wealth is a huge problem. * And it is.

Then a few days later when talking about a different topic says there isn't that big of a gap between the income of black men and white men.

    #1 These viewpoints conflict.
#2 The second statement isn't true
#3 Making that statement kind of damages are fight for reparations.

He is a good source of motivation but that's about it. He just really talks on the fly.

Most of these guys seem to have the gift of gab. Phillip Scott has even said that's his gift on his show. Unfortunately when that's all you're doing is babbling you can sometimes say stuff that is hurtful to our community.

Great points and I think it’s important to remember that they’re all just people. Some are rich, some are popular, some are both but at the end of the day they are all just people.

I learned my lesson the hard way with starting 6ZEROS. I learned that some are truly real niggas and some are simply hustlers who will switch up the second it is no longer profitable.

    It is what it is.

America as a society hates the concept of thinking for yourself. They always want us to take whatever the mainstream pushes out as our own opinion. Ukraine and COVID shows us just how much the USA devalues self-thought and crititcal thinking.

Except for TBA & PBT, the rest of those YouTubers are just entertainment & opportunists. Don't get me wrong; Tariq, Dr. Umar, Phil Scott, Hassan Campbell, Brother Polight, Lord Jamar, etc. often have a good message, but the man (or woman) behind the message is just out to make some cash.
I'm not knocking their hustles, but what those guys (and ladies) have done is copy the old preacher's blueprint. They give us a good message & then pass the collection plate. The only difference is that today's collection plate is hitting the cashapp, buying merch, a superchat, or something similar.
My professional background is in sales management so I might be a little cynical, but I notice that everything Tariq (for example) says circles back to a t-shirt, dvd, or merch sale. That's an old sales technique straight out of Zig Ziglar book.
Again, I'm not knocking anybody's hustle, or trying to stop brothers & sisters from getting paid. I see the sales pitch, though.
