This one hit me on a personal level because my Dad's sister would always tell me their mother was half Cherokee and if only we could prove it, then I could probably get extra grants for college. My grandmother died before I was born, but she had those strong cheekbones and dark eyes and skin that we associate with Black Indigenous Americans. But when I saw these pictures of her in high school, I could only picture the Red Natives and couldn't figure out how that was possible. Of course, now I know.
