Maybe it is cause I don't really watch movies like I once did but it seems like a majority of movies that center around black people deal with comedy, love, romance, etc. but I seldom see or hear about ones centered around family. I can't think of the last movie I heard of that was showcasing a story that was moving and uplifting about a married black couple raising their children.

I could be wrong and might have overlooked some great stories but I am not so sure. I mostly watch TV series these days so there is a chance I missed out on some. Are there any good movies like this out there?

The Black Family is a trope in most Black People's mind. In the 90s, Fresh Prince and Family Matters and others showcased family themes. In the 80s Bill Cosby caught bad press because the parents were a doctor and lawyer.

Besides all of that, our people love dysfunction and wear it as a badge of honor.* So, the real question is how do you get the money from people that love dysfunction.

*Not all Black People.

Yeah, I certainly know plenty who aren't about this dysfunction. I think pretty much everyone on this forum is against that bull. Problem is, not enough are willing to stand up and say or do something about it.

I don't know how you run it back though. I am pretty sure the narrative for blacks in America was set this way on purpose. Like if everyone was focused more on family, raising kids, starting their own career... The powers that be would lose control and they don't want that.

I run it back by living as a Black man. I remember the "Good Times" episode about gangs threatening JJ to join. James wasn't having it.
When gangs and thug life were featured in our media, it wasn't portrayed as a good thing: unlike what we see today.

Our values have changed 180 degrees and this present generation thinks that it's normal to be a thug.

Just my opinion.

No, you are not wrong. Most movies of today care little about showing black family life with a Black father, mother and children that are not dysfunctional. There is a real effort to destroy the Black family and the Black men & Black women relationship to pit them against each other. Hollyweird has never been about positive images of the Black family; you would probably have to search out independent movie makers to see positive Black family movies.

So true sis. Everything is about an independent Black women they act like our men don’t even exist. It’s in movies, music, tv, advertising, they never want to show an in-tact Black family. That’s why we need to produce our own media.

I have a problem with this. Like, are black women not allowed to want more for themselves? Are black men not allowed to want marriage and kids under one roof? This is the kind of bull that makes me question things happening in the world, especially when it comes to Hollywood. Like if they really cared about diversity and painting better pictures of people, they would be focusing on more wholesome things for black communities and viewers. Instead, we get mindless comedy and dysfunctional families like mentioned.
