I just saw the trailer, it looks really good. I'm usually not a big fan of westerns but I'll for sure watch this one.
When I was a kid, my mom bought me some Black history comic books. One of them was about Black cowboys and told the stories of Nat Love, Bill Pickett, and Cherokee Bill.
It was so cool seeing those three legendary Black cowboys paid homage in this movie. If there's ever a dvd or blu-ray version released, I'll definitely add it next to "Posse" in my collection.
This was a fun, action packed movie that I'll definitely watch again!

Also, the 2 other female leads were brown skinned, and got more screen time than Zazie.
Don't let false outrage stop you from seeing a very Black & very dope movie.

It dropped yesterday. It was dope. I won't spoil it, but EVERYBODY acted their butts off!
You have me excited now. I have this on my "must watch" list this weekend.
One cool thing about the movie is that any of the main characters could have a solo spin off movie as a sequel or a prequel.
I think a movie about either Trudy, Cherokee Bill, or Bass Reeves would be especially dope!
Man, the biggest surprise for me was
Deon Cole. I thought he was gonna be on joke time, but even he was a bad mf!
Everyone's viewing experience will be different, but a solid movie nonetheless.

Just finished the movie. It was a solid movie, I liked it a lot. My only criticism is the set's. They looked too new, too clean, some of the props too, like the mattress and pillow in the jail cell, they looked brand new.
The story was good, action was good, the camera work was pretty dope, did some things I never seen before.
I hope they make more westerns with all black cast, I enjoyed it.

It started off violent too. My lady didn’t want to watch it for that reason. After the first scene, then the church, then the shoot she was through.
Right? Reminded me of Quentin Tarantino's movies. Nothing but gratuitous black on black violence. Not much different than hood movies like Menace to Society.
It started off hardcore. The killing of the husband and wife in front of the son, the murder scene in the church, and the shoot out holy shit it was an onslaught of violence. It was the same with Squid Game…it’s almost like the people that make this crap get high off it. I barely even play violent video games anymore…definitely aint got time for a call of duty.
I don’t think it has anything to do with Blackness. American culture is violent so this is part for the course.It's like people are so thirsty for black representativity they'll accept everything.
With that being said this scene was dope though.
Yes i agree but moviemakers can decide the level of violence they'll expose the viewer. There's a reason movies like Goodbye Uncle Tom from 1972 are not popular.
Goodbye Uncle Tom was a low budget Italian film with no mainstream US actors. It wasn't given a wide release in the US. Also, it's only mediocre as a film.
There are many domestic movies from the same time period that are violent yet popular. In fact, the iconic Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released only two years later.
Mandingo was also released around the same time, and is a Blaxploitation classic.
None of these movies are as explicit as Goodbye Uncle Tom. You're right about it not having a decent release.
At the end of the day violent movies bring nothing positive to society.
The most explicit thing about GUT was a baby's genitals being exposed. The TCM alone had more violence and gore. Incedentally, City of God, which is my favorite Brazilian movie, is more violent than GUT.

Just got done with the movie, and I gotta say I really enjoyed it. I did see a lot of western cliches, but I still had fun. There seems to be an opening for possible sequels as well, so I am psyched about that.
Of course, they still shoot a lot of people in this movie, so my point is probably pointless. But still, I think it made sense for the movie to show how evil the main villain is, and how much more forgiving the main character is. Essentially, good vs evil.
I felt the same way, but I kinda forgot about it as I continued to watch.
I think that was mainly in regards to the main bad guy in the movie. I felt like he was violent for the purpose of being violent. They wanted to show he was ruthless and didn't care about anyone. Yet the main star of the movie, was willing to let people live instead. Which I think is why the violence was a key factor. It shows the main protagonist as someone trustworthy, capable and isn't some murderous monster.
