The Hidden Metric on Black People’s Performance Reviews

    What many Black people do not realize is that their every word and action is being monitored in the work place. The White people in the office and the White “wannabes” monitor Black employees closely to determine how rooted they are in their Blackness in addition to their level of malleability. There are 4 major categories most Black people fall into:

    Leadership is aware that individuals of Personas B and C will push against the status quo and topple the system. Now, you may be asking, how do they keep track? Well, every Black person in the office has a Corporate Credit Score that determines if, when, and how far they will ascend the rungs of the corporate ladder.

    You Are Being Vetted​

    When Susan asks, “What are your thoughts on Bernie Sanders?” it’s not a benign act. She is gauging how sympathetic you are to Whiteness. When you inevitably respond “I feel that my thoughts on Bernie Sanders would be in alignment with that of Malcolm X” you are putting the equivalent of a foreclosure on your credit report. So now you’re asking…why not remain silent? Why not answer at all?

    Well, that’s a problem as well. When you refuse to give White people the ability to assign you a Corporate Credit Score you fall into Persona C. White people’s biggest fear in Corporate America is having a Malcolm X close-to or controlling the levers of power. A silent Black person in Corporate America could either be a Malcolm X or a Larry Elder and White people will classify them as a threat until they know otherwise. If you are the silent Black person, you will inevitably have White people asking all types of mundane questions and it’s not because you’re interesting, it’s to assign you a Corporate Credit Score. When you refuse these “Requests for Information” you will become ostracized. This makes it simpler to managed you out, fire you for lack of performance, or put you on the short list for Reduction in Forces.

    Always Know Your Corporate Credit Score​

    So, when you are in a situation where your performance justifies an increased role, but the business is unwilling to provide it, you need to review your Corporate Credit Score. The goal here is not to promote coonery but rather to help you understand the game you are playing in Corporate America. Understanding the diabolic nature of the system can help bring clarity into why Black Americans need to collaborate and cooperate with one another.

    But in the meantime, we have created a Corporate Credit Score Simulator to help you determine where you stand in the office.

    I still find it funny how white people are complaining about being traced, tracked, and databased today when black people in America have been on these kinds of books for decades.

    I make a point to never talk politics or religion at work cause I know there are people who will use anything I say against me.

    This is 100% fact's, I've experienced this personally. I was looked over many times for certain positions because I was either "outspoken" or "wasn't easy to work with" I don't play, chat, or get involved with office/workplace politics. I come to work not make friends.
    Although I've seen Black dudes that "act" white and get promoted, moved to a better position, or get easier work. We knew why.

    Although I've seen Black dudes that "act" white and get promoted, moved to a better position, or get easier work. We knew why.
    You would think that they would want someone in a higher position that is able to set aside office relationships to get the job done... But no, they want people they know they can control. You ever notice how a lot of higher-up positions are legit held by white men who you know would cheat on their wives with a dude if it meant they would get another promotion?

    You would think that they would want someone in a higher position that is able to set aside office relationships to get the job done... But no, they want people they know they can control. You ever notice how a lot of higher-up positions are legit held by white men who you know would cheat on their wives with a dude if it meant they would get another promotion?
    Almost every position I've seen held by black men in a corporate, office, or large business almost always looks acts and talks moist.
    And all the black females that have positions at a "front desk" or HR is almost always big, sassy and flashy.
    I've seen this a lot.

    I've seen this a lot.
    They have a feminine air to them, I have seen it. Very few feel strong to me. And you are spot on with the HR positions. They won't let me hold the desk at work probably cause I am not the right mold for them.

    This is why building our own table is important because as long as the goal is to have a seat at the table we're always going to be fighting for that last seat. As many of us know no one wants that last person to disrupt the status quo of that table in any shape or fashion; even being quiet will bring some sort of concern, so they'll be suspicious of your motives. If you don't fall all the way in line they're going to find a replacement that will.

    i worked at a non-profit for a few years--at this emergency shelter for at risk teenagers. Many of them were kids from North Tulsa living in moderte to extreme poverty. When I was just a part timer, taking frequent vacations, cracking jokes at the meetings, and playing practical jokes on the staff and residents, everyone loved me. But when they asked me to interview to be a coordinator because I was one of the few legitimately qualified people on staff to do the job well, no one took me seriously. Until I got the job then all the white people (and a few of the Mexicans) on staff showed their asses. My first day on, 3 people called in sick as a protest. I ended up having to fire like 5 staff members that first month on the gig, and everyone in the administration wing all of a sudden stopped being friendly.. My boss (a Black woman ) tried to warn me, but even I was surprised at how quickly they turned on me---facebook posts talking shit about me and everythang. It was a very educational experience. I was still confused as to what White Supremacy was back then.

    Facts.

    Any Black person in a corporate work environment who doesn't think that they're every move is closely monitored hasn't been paying attention.
    They will get their inevitable wake up call.
    This is why building our own table is important because as long as the goal is to have a seat at the table we're always going to be fighting for that last seat.     This was the key takeaway I wanted from the article. We don't need to read this and try to find out how to work around it. We need to understand that the game is trash and leave it alone.

    This happens a lot. People smile in your face, get lunch with you, play video games with you but they'll never report to you because you're Black. But you did the right thing which I have done too. If you have a problem, I'll fire you and bring in new staff that respect my position. No reason to fight and try to get them to like you.

    This is a brillant post.Most people think that this isnt real.
    I failed every test i was given. I thought about all of those situations. One instance I remeber was when I was telling my co workers I didnt feel comfortable excepting counterfeit money. I couldnt understand why these two guys kept telling me that I had to except the counterfeit. They didnt tell me to call the authorities or anything like that. I didnt want my fingerprints on it. But that was A BIG deal. I didnt have to worry about that anymore. I wasnt in a position to accept any money anymore.

    I finished reading this piece and at times I felt as if the author was stalking me at the office. The salient points for me:

    • We are all being watched.
    • We are all being classified based on our propensity to disrupt the status quo.
    • That we delude ourselves in corporate America in hopes of greater pay.
    • That my credit score is low low low low.
