What was your very first WTF or "I didn't see that coming" moment in either a video game, TV or movie?
Also, I'm not putting spoilers on mine because they're old af and if it's still a spoiler for you at this point well, then that's on you.

For me in gaming: I would have to say it was Final Fantasy X. Finding out that Yevon was playing everyone for the fool just to keep the leaders all in power and letting Sin run amok on the people to keep them all in line? Meanwhile the summoners are all going off on a suicide mission, thinking they'll be the one to finally defeat Sin for good? That shit blew my mind at age 16 because it was so relevant to what was happening with the Church at the time amid all the scandals and the covering it all up and the hush money and just all the lengths a religious construct is willing to do to keep the people obedient.

TV/Movie: Sixth Sense was my first movie "WTF" moment. Finding out Bruce Willis' character actually died in the end? The Skeleton Key I would argue is a very close second.

For me was beating Super Mario Bros 2 only to find out that it was all a dream. That pissed me off so much because the last level was so difficult only to be shown that it was all for nothing.

My next was Super Metroid on the last boss fight, the Metroid comes and helps you against I think it was Ridley. That was such an epic moment, I thought it was coming to kill me and it came and helped.

I dropped the controlled I was disgusted. Excuse my language but fuck that bastard hacked together cheap ass cash grab fake ass game. They redeemed themselves with Mario 3. I was able to deal with the fact that Mario 3 was a play moreso than Mario 2 being a dream because I knew the entire time that Mario 3 was a play and every level was a set.

Until you mentioned it you're right. It was a play. It opens up with curtains! and the characters all running across a stage! I never even paid attention to it as a play because it reminded me so much of the cartoon that was on at the time.

Shigeru Miyamoto finally confirmed it for Mario’s 30th anniversary. It makes sense why all the platforms in the game are hung on strings and blocks are screwed into the wall. It was so clever. Mario was never in danger the entire game, they were all just actors in a Play that you the player we’re in audience of. GENIUS.

Nintendo is the GOAT developer. I don’t think there is a single developer who has franchises older than Mario, Zelda, and Metroid that are success til this day. Mario drops, he on the top of NPD.
