It would take at least 5-10 million at a bare minimum for me to live in NYC, LA or SF, hell even Chicago. And I'd need something to bring me there.

I know a guy who took a 200k a year salary to a gig near Washington Heights and after working out the math, taxes, etc, he and his wife moved to north New Jersey and commuted. This is not even counting her salary, master's degree so she'd make decent money.

Now he's looking for a gig in another city. Just not worth it for him. He's from the south so its not like he's in love with NYC or anything.

So many folks want an infinite number of things to do and will pay those super duper high prices.

No. It's getting like this in some areas of LA and they're not worth it. Some of the new builds out here use very cheap materials from faucet and door knobs, hand rails, and etc. In addition, since they want to be cheap and build as many as possible they have those tiny backyards, your neighbor can look right throw your window and look into your house, and they build up like this one. So you have a bunch of stairs to climb every single day which sucks as you age.

I'm a fan of ranch style houses which is not the most efficient usage of space but the open floor plan and the high ceilings are unbeatable. When you walk into a modern ranch style house it's breath-taking.

Yep. $300,000 in bigger areas or in more affluent areas is nothing. It is getting to a point now in many other places where $300,000 still won't get a mansion.

I know one thing. I have thought about living in a mini house if I lived in certain towns, but then again I want a nice sized house. I see why folks have the affordable version since prices keep rising on everything in stores.
