So much of his statements can be countered. He would sometimes say 'In the 1950s black teen unemployment was much lower than white teens"
But if we examine it closer, it makes sense for all the WRONG reasons. Post WW2 was an economic boom. The white middle class exploded. The GI Bill, post war boom. The baby boomers got their name from that period. 10s of 1000s of soldiers came home in 1946 and they got married and had kids. Ford, Boeing, bunch of large companies were hiring big time. Suburbs sprung up.

Anyway, the white kids didn't have to work as much. Pre WW2 was the Great Depression, they all had to work. Post WW2 they moved into working and middle class. The black middle class grew a lot as well but no where close to the whites. So, black teens had to work. White kids didn't have to hence the explanation for the unemployment rates of black teens lower.

Sowell knows this. But it gaslights things. Furthermore, when he talks about pre 60s and blacks were married 75 percent households and blah blah out of wedlock kids. He is signaling during Jim Crow blacks were better.

Ahh.....my counter to that is Black families were in more 2 parent homes but....
1. They couldn't vote in the south.
2. There was legal segregation in the south and we were routinely lynched. In the north blatant red lining, blacks were not allowed to walk through the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria. No matter how much money you had you weren't getting an apartment outside of black areas (Harlem, Flatbush, etc).

Of course we want 2 parent families, but how the f*ck is having 2 parents and you can still be lynched, redlined, etc. ? How was life better? I can agree with him about white liberals making policies that split up the black families, but if you asked him, so what was the Republican solution?

I don't know where to begin... 1. We all know that slavery isn't exclusive to just us. Anybody with basic knowledge of world history knows this... 2. Mentioning slavery by the Barbary pirates in Africa has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with chattel slavery here in the U.S... 3. We're not talking about slavery reparations for everybody. And here is how you counter this. First of all, slavery is wrong. However, slavery was being practiced by the Arabs pre Islam and they continued after. Islam didn't outlaw it, it just codified it. Moslems were not allowed enslave another moslem and there were Islamic rules on how you treat slaves.

What makes European slavery different is that, it was wrong in their religion, Christianity. The Arabs, Chinese others who enslaved, it was okay in their religion and culture. It was NOT in Christianity. The new testament does not allow Christians to enslave other peoples. So, when the Europeans started enslaving Africans they knew they were violating Christian doctrine. THAT is the big difference.

Sowell knows this but doesn't make that distinction. Also, he is normalizing the enslavement of his own ancestors. How sick do you have to be?

Lastly, he (and whites) would never commit that same energy to the holocaust and genocide. Genocide was normal at the time of the Holocaust. About 25 years prior the Armenians had a genocide in Turkey in the early 1900s. At the same time the Nazis were committing genocide the Japanese were doing similar all over Asia. In fact, the Japanese were so savage in Nanking, China, the Nazi Germany embassy helped move about 250,000 Chinese out to save them. When you make a Nazi say 'damn, you doing too much' its more than bad. There have genocides since the Holocaust. Now, that is a fact. But you will never, ever hear Sowell use the same energy to say that. Only about his own people.

Sowell is a liar by omission. First of all he makes a straw man argument. No black person ever who talks about slavery in America has ever said slavery didn't exist in other areas of the world and that whites were never enslaved anywhere or Blacks didn't enslave either other Blacks or even Whites.

So, why does he talk about this when its not an issue? It's a strawman argument.

Okay, so let's dive in and do a deep dive. Sowell lies here by omission. How? Slavery among Arabs was cultural. They had slaves prior to Islam and all Islam did was codify the institution of slavery. That's it. Slavery was a continual thing among Arabs and later non Arab moslems (Moors, etc) who adopted it from the Arabs. It's not right but they were already practicing it. The big difference after Islam was that you were not allowed to enslave another Moslem. Prior to Islam they enslaved anyone including other Arabs.

The 'West' or specifically white Europeans both in Europe and in the Americas. were NOT engaged in slavery prior to the 1500s. When the Roman Empire conquered Europe and converted to Christianity they were following New Testament principles which were that Christians didn't enslave. Eventually slavery in Roman Europe changed from slavery to serfdom. Serfdom was a form of economic slavery to some extent but they were not slaves by definition. So while Arabs converted to Islam which made enslavement easier and a huge institution. Europe had totally disbanded slavery. The early church was against slavery. The teaching of Christianity by the catholic church was against slavery. It was against Christianity at the time to enslave someone, you converted someone by works and love. The Pope and Europeans knew it was wrong to start slavery and that's why they made papal edicts and changed how Christianity was interpreted to accommodate slavery.

THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE. The Moslems didn't see slavery as wrong. The Europeans saw it as wrong at the time and changed Christianity to justify it.
Sowell knows this and doesn't say it by omission.

Finally, Sowell's own ancestors were enslaved on the killing fields of the American south and he justifies it by de facto. It takes a complete self hating, mentally disturbed person who knows full well how his ancestors were brutalized and lesson the brutality of it by straw man arguments. The man is sick. Brilliant mind, but sick.
