We have had ray tracing in EEVEE for a couple of years now so they are even. This new Lumen has a more efficient algorithm.

I feel like they are getting to a point where they know they can't alter and control human brains with tech so they are looking for AI to advance us. I am all for open source but the wrong people can get their hands on anything these days, especially since most people would sell out for money.

As close as everything looks, it's still not being read by my brain as "real". It's nice and if they slip it in live action, it can help but it's just not there yet.
The Violator's transformation scene took crazy amounts of rendering and people went crazy.
This new engine is just the latest iteration...

I was just sitting here trying to reply like wtf is happening then I realized my cat was pushing on the enter key on my keyboard forcing the page to keep going down to type in. LOL God help us all if the cats learn how to use tech. haha

But yeah I think you are right, it is a ways out. I am not sure we will see a huge leap in our lifetimes or not. It really depends on developments and God. Maybe God will decide enough is enough and cleanse the earth.

I bet. I don't frequent there anymore. I saw some real nasty subs and groups on there and I kind of just distanced myself from the platform. Apparently, some of the mods/admins are perverts, some are supposedly pedophiles as well. No shocker they banned you over calling their mess out.

The New Tomb Raider is set to be developed with that and I'm so excited about it. Tomb Raider have been one of my favorite game series for years. With the new Lara Croft character for the game, it's definitely going to be blockbuster.
