I'll post a few examples below. I want to know what you all think on it. Like I think the culture in America has fractured and is dominated by self-indulgence through consumerism and greed. Relationships and marriages are failing daily, people aren't raising their kids, the government itself is bending us all over and is fully lubed up... I feel like every aspect of culture, economy, and society in America is on a downward spiral.

I think using music to get a message across is a smart move because these days, the culture tends to guide the government and the laws. If enough of us stopped putting up with this stuff, it would be forced to change. I think be instilling a strong culture in America and the desire to learn, grow, and achieve greatness things will greatly improve. Music is viewed as a luxury by most but is used as a weapon by many.

If done right I believe it's a great tool to get a message across, whether I agree or disagree with them, unfortunately unless you're Kendrick Lamar (who's been compromised by the establishment anyway) or Lil Baby (who released one song and went back to business as usual) no one's trying to hear you. They want that feel good, performative babble, not songs that challenge their stances or forces them to use critical thinking. A song like "You Must Learn" would get dismissed as corny these days, or KRS would be called a "hotep"(another conversation that needs to be had).

I'm all for it. We've used music many times to speak our truths and beliefs, and I wish more artists were open to being a little political. A little politics is fine, and I especially like when artists use proceeds from their music to help the cause they're addressing. As long as lies aren't spread about people, I don't care.

Maybe a better wording would have been "politically patriotic". I know what you mean. Social politics play heavy in rap and always have but patriotism in rap seems rather new. Unless I am overlooking a lot of artists' work in the past.

ahh that clears things up, yea the patriotism in rap is fairly rare. Depending on the context I don't see anything wrong with it. The term FBA is patriotic (Foundational Black American) in the right context.
