Why does this irritate me so bad?....
It's one of the most studied — and most controversial — varieties of English. But many people still hold deep misconceptions about African-American English (AAE).

Yeah I agree with you on that Ro. Like it was good information. But there's just....something about it. You have two obviously mixed race women presenting this info, one is clearly Asian non-black and the other is looks to be half black. It's on PBS so that aesthetic was probably done to make it more palatable for whites. despite all that, it very well could be on the up and up. For me, maybe it's the lack of at least one dark skinned black person participating in the presentation. So it's giving off the impression that there's some foolery some kind of way.

The words she mentioned at the beginning, I hear coming out more white mouths than black ones. I think we start the words, they get trendy, and then we drop them. When you hear a 10-year-old white boy walking around using these words, you know it ain't fly anymore lol

right!! I feel like there is a subconscious and maybe even a conscious association that whiteness and white people equals boring, lame, unimaginative, uncreative, hokey, vanilla, basic. So once our shit crosses over to them, we sort of use that as the indicator it's time to make up something new lol

Why when a white person on the news or Tv show say a slang word or dance we created they always say “ like the kids say”.Ain’t no damn like the kids say. You mean like the Black people say!!They never want to give us our credit smh
Oh they will give us credit when one of our people commits a crime though. They like to spin ish and make us all out to look bad. Did it for years and the media running around in 2022 like "how come racism still exists?" like they don't even see what they do. Bunch of bull.

Here's the thing on that though, it's THEIR kids who show them because THEIR kids are so fascinated with black culture. So for them, THEY actually believe it's some shit "The Kids" have come up with. Until they find out it's black culture and then they find some way to spin away from the story or try to ignore and bury it, like always

There was a funny comment under this video:

The AAVE to white people slang pipeline:

    • black people > white homosexuals > drunk white girls > mainstream white vocabulary.

    Or

    • An increasingly common alternative: black twitter > internet memes > mainstream white vocabulary.
Both of those are very accurate, actually. 3f81fb7bdf05974c10ece7d05a58b05ecd996647-14.gif

I don’t believe that, they know how we talk they hear us.They just choose to accept it when it comes from white kids and to give them the credit

Yes because Black drama and Black negativity is a number 1 seller in the media
They view us as pawns of entertainment. Why you think the only black people in this country who are valued and respected are the ones who play sports, or rap, or act? We hardly ever see appreciation for black business men and women or black inventors. Most people don't even know the man who created the first refrigerator was a black man!

Those are all facts Brotha. Your right about the last part too, but I bet they know your favorite rapper or love of hip hop star and Basketball player. This list should be mandatory to know
