Everyone I know has plans for New Year's Eve and Day but me haha

I will probably just end up hanging with my family. Not really into drinking or partying anymore. I outgrew that in my early twenties. I know my lil bro (still lives with our parents) is having a few friends over and they are getting take out. I will probably just hang over there and play some games with them. My friends are either out of town or going to some party.

What do you got going on for this weekend? Anything planned?

I got jack schitt going on. Nursing a flu. But even if I weren't, I wouldn't be doing anything. Sad in some ways.
Sad how? Like not going anything isn't a bad thing. Most people just go out and get drunk out their damn minds and then start the new year hung over and a mess.

Probably about 3 years ago, I decided to stop recognizing January 1st as the New Year and start thinking of it as March 21st and "celebrating" it then.....I just try and stay out the streets on Dec. 31st cuz you know folks don't know how to act
So you celebrate the changing season? I mean to me it would make way more sense for the year to shift over with Spring, not in early Winter lol

Yea basically. When I kept hearing it explained that way, it made everything make mores sense. I'm never in a social mood round this time of year. IT gets dark early. Everything is dead or dying outside. I read the equinox was a celebration of the crop season as well.
How do you do that in real life? Do you basically just honor it in your personal life or do you and your family all agree?

Its just something personal that I make note of. I was already not going out for NYE for the past 5 years so there were no real adjustments to make. But I treat it like Thanksgiving., I won't knock people who celebrate it, but it ain't for me. I enjoy being in bed by 8 and going to sleep before midnight
I did stay up to see the New Year come in. I agree with you about the first parts of your post because I love letting people have freedom to do whatever they want as long as it is not infringing on other people's rights. I don't like going out as much because there is usually somebody fighting or shooting or arguing or begging. I can't deal with it.

The real new year is when spring starts which is the 3rd week of March. I always found fault with the new year starting when things are dead outside.

I know another woman on Facebook was talking about how she was sad that she was sick during this time of year because she can't spend it with her family due to them keeping their distance from her. They don't trust that mask either because they said they didn't want to catch anything.

That would suck for sure. I know people are still acting weird since 2020. A lot of people that would otherwise not give a damn suddenly became germaphobes. Strange times we living in.

I would love to change things up like this. Like it just don't make sense to celebrate a new year while everything is dark, cold, and dead/hibernating. I am pretty sure it used to happen in the spring a long time ago but they changed the time it happens... I just don't remember why.

I think it has something to do with the Gregorian calendars and Rome taking over the western world.

Seems to be about right. Did a quick search and came across this:

I have to wonder what we celebrate today will be changed to be something else in the future. Seems like things are always getting moved around.
