Hey yall just wondering mans feelings on the holidays and special occasions. More specifically the commercial aspect and how its marketed. If were counting all the people in your life and your buying for them every Christmas valentines day anniversary birthday. Seems to me you spending hella cash and even worse its keeping yall in the stores where the marketing can reach you. You come in for one thing and you leave with 20 other things you didnt even want. I think we have to let this go if you want to do something nice for someone do it for its own sake i dont think we need holidays telling us to do these things and i think its predititory on purpose. That being said its always great to get together and sing songs or whatever but i think it needs to be addressed.

Its also unescapable. No matter the holiday, you’re going to be surrounded by stuff for it. It will be on TV, Podcasts, in the stores, etc and if you have kids they’ll see it and want to participate because everyone else around them will. Until we can truly separate ourselves, we will always follow the stream.

Well i didnt mean you cant celebrate or take part in it but do you guys see the preditory side of it as well. Like from a keeping you in there stores and buying there stuff. Like i have like 10 neices and nephews my mom and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. If i were to buy for them every birthday and christmas i might go insane. Do you think we should be reeducating our children not to think so materialisticly or atleast not to associate stuff with holidays.

Great point i have samsung a20 and it works fine ive payed off my tab and every now and then my phone is encouraging me to buy the newest phone. So i hear what your saying maybe the decoupling from that starts with holidays however. Because like smoking i think u assciate shopping with events. Like smoking where you want a cig when you drive after sex when you wake up when your stressed. When i stopped smoking cigarettes i had to recondition my brain to do other stuff during these events. Maybe starting small would be a good way to look at it.

I personally feel that holidays are the symptom and not the issue. Starting with holidays is putting a leaky bucket under a roof. So instead of splurging on Black Friday, you splurge on Cyber Tuesday. The core issue is finding looking for happiness in material possession instead of through life and fulfillment of purpose. When your purpose becomes to gain material you find yourself chasing something that is never attainable and never able to satiate you.

Materialism is like drinking water that makes you thirsty.

I don't know how people fall for it year after year and go into debt because these old white farts want people spending their hard-earned money just because they declared it a holiday. It is just another example of chains holding people down. They need people in debt and struggling and they want them happy to be doing it. They make bank convincing people they need to spend their money. It isn't just an issue with holidays, they do this for everything. It is marketing manipulation and I swear this came straight from Nazi Germany.

Buying the stuff doesn’t even matter, it’s about where your values reside. When your value resides in the gifts and you will do anything to get it, then you have a problem. That’s when you go into debt.

Being on code for our group is very difficult will admit that over the last 5-10 years the cohesion of though with our group is getting better but, we have a long ass way to go. Trying to get everyone to stop doing something is impossible, what we need is enough of us that will make a difference.
Too many of our people's minds are still stuck in la la land.
But what i've done over the years is when it comes to xmas, any of my kids over 18, don't expect anything from me, you're not a kid anymore they all understand this, accepted it and don't have an issue with it. for most of them xmas is just another day, no stress over giving gifts or going broke trying to buy stuff for people.
Birthdays.. splurge if you can, but all this other stuff... naw.
