I know most people are familiar with TLC's nonsense. I see clips and watch YouTubers who react to 90-day fiance and the BS they put on those shows is unreal. A lot of couples hardly speak the same language and I have to wonder how a relationship could even be formed.

So I thought I would ask... Would you ever date someone who didn't speak the same language?

I personally wouldn't.

There is no way you would expect the relationship to work out because a very big part of relationship is based on communication.

If you look it very closely, most relationships begin to has cracks when the level of communication drops.

I wonder how they even had to start up a new relationship without talking? Did they use sign language?

Nope. We need to be able to be on the same page. If you speak English as a second language, that is workable but if you can hardly speak it or don't speak it at all? How the heck are we meant to communicate in a healthy manner?

Shows like 90 day fiance (to me) show the desperation and arrogance some people in the West possess. For them to believe that they could have a relationship with someone who they can't even talk to goes to show how some people deny the complexity and humanity of others due to a language barrier. They think their money and status will suffice. But overall, it's impossible to have a relationship with someone you can't communicate with. Just the struggle to communicate and express yourselves will cause strain.

They think their money and status will suffice. But overall, it's impossible to have a relationship with someone you can't communicate with. Just the struggle to communicate and express yourselves will cause strain.

Their relationships are basically stuck in a superficial stage. They can bond, grow fond of each other, but can they build together? Can they exchange complex thoughts and ambitions? NOPE! If cannot speak to someone verbally, your communication is basically like trying to talk to a dog. The person whose the dog is whoever is trying to receive the communication. They'll be looking at you like:

Also think about how communication can get misinterpreted with two fluent speakers. When you have two people who cannot communicate in the same language fluently the misinterpretation grows exponentially. Also to your other point the cultural aspects, if you can’t even talk to overcome the cultural differences you’re screwed.

I would never consider dating someone who doesn't speak the same language with me considering the fact that communication is a very important tool in every relationship. There would be lots of struggles and misunderstandings due to language barrier except there is a lingua franca that they both understand.

It's going to be practically impossible for such a relationship to hold especially when it's a face to face relationship. Interaction will be completely zero in communication and that's going to kill the relationship no matter what love the parties might have for each other. If it's a long distance relationship, it might work but anything face to face and in person, it's not going to work at all.

I don't know about y'all but I sincerely feel there would be some frictions between the two individuals in terms of communication, you both wouldn't understand much of what each other are saying , i know there is Google translate for texts and all that , but what about phone calls, video chatting and the likes how would you sort that out. But the truth remains that you could find love in the weirdest of place and I believe love remains the ultimate in cases like this.

Couples that speak the same language have difficulty with communication. It's already like women think so differently that you think that speak another language.

And the translator application wouldn't be adequate because there are times when it doesn't get the right meaning or translation of what you wanted to write. It's a hell of a work that wouldn't even last for long. How can you not talk with your lover in a week and expect to have any sort of connection with him or her?

There's no way it's ever going to work no matter what you try and how much and often you make use of Google Translator app. Without the vocal words being shared in a relationship, it never feels like one.

Well, I can,as long as we both have a common language we can speak together. Hubby is from another country that speaks a different language, we both speak English and I try to learn his language,so far we are doing good and communication has never being better.

You can use Google Translator when you're not together and it would work just fine most of the time. What happens when you're with him or her face to face?
