I don't have social media

View: https://youtu.be/eObpOW3-JPo

Social media are interactive technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression through virtual communities and networks.

I view it as a social network. Social media is more modern and revolves around self-identity and self-expression. It is about the user whereas forums are about the topic. There is always the main focus on forums or a strict niche people focus on, social media does not have that. This is how I look at it anyway.

BINGO!
Lady you have won the teddy bear with the top hat.

Message boards are 40 year old technology and although they are good for call and response type of situations they are really not made for social interaction and expression. Since Web 2.0 there has been a great deal of effort to help people to not only personalize their space but remain in their own space. RSS feeds are personalized, Facebook profiles let's you have a space for you to express yourself with limits. Twitter is the same.

Now we are moving into the era of federated spaces through open source applications like Mastodon.
The times are indeed changing.

No offence, Rollie Forbes

I heard some talks of having an entire network where you can flow from one site to another. I can't remember what it is called but basically, if Twitter, Facebook, etc wants to ban you, they can't take your content away and people can still follow you through a hubverse of sorts. I will have to find the article I was reading about it. It basically would ensure we all have free speech and the free and open right/access to use the internet as we please in terms of communication (so long as actual laws aren't being broken). It will basically help things return to a pre-social media time but with better awareness of issues like child/human and drug trafficking, pedophilia, etc. Lord knows Twitter is loaded with all that mess.

We need to protect online anonymity at all costs. Once they try linking us up with everything, they will have full control of our lives. This is why I support projects like this. Open source, free the code, establish trust... We need to work harder so the government and corrupt corporations do not further enslave us.

Years ago I gave a talk to developers in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I spooked them on purpose to wake them up.
Basically I told them that the internet was a weapon at heart. Sure, it's not a gun that will kill you right now. It's a subversive weapon that's just below the surface and the potential that it pack, can topple whole governments.

Naturally men with single tracked minds thought of ways to take free "real estate", and place limits on people's expression. White knight syndrome and other assorted fools from white supremacists to your run of the mill turd, have all crapped on the idea of freedom.

Open source will lead us back!
😂👌

Thankfully enough people are aware enough of this issue and are working on counteracting it. It is just a shame they didn't see this coming 15 years ago. I don't think the internet has been free in the same sense since like 2010.

Mercedes Haefer stayed at my house about 17 years ago and we used to watch public node traffic. The FBI used to get their butts kicked daily.

The secret is that the FBI used people on a payroll while Mercedes worked with people who had heart and were motivated with passion. Passion won at first.

Mercedes woke up with an FBI gun to her face. "Mr. Brown" in Dallas was arrested on a live and hasn't been heard from since.

My point is that the system has ways of making you obey. There is a line in the sand on how far you can go to make them give you back you freedom. The cost is too high for most people.

But we will continue to fight.😎👌
