The damage from those shows have been done and have evolved to social media trends. Take a look at Black Twitter, The Shaderoom, and all of the ish that goes viral...all of it is problematic and baseless.
Social media is a mess. There's tons of sites just like what you mention with Black Twitter. I hope the trend dies out, because it's only making things worse imo. I think eventually people who do enjoy that content, eventually grow out of it, but there are some who get stuck into it.
It sucks, because it's nothing but stereotypes and misconceptions with these shows. On top of all of that, didn't Jerry Springer and Maury also request their guests to turn their anger/problems up to 11? I remember hearing how sometimes they even asks guests to make ish up in order to make the show more crazy. All of that adds up and it makes us look bad. I don't know how many times they ripped on black people on those shows.
It's going to take a while to change the narrative, because these shows have been around for years making us look bad. And Maury is still around, though relatively tame, he still is problematic in my opinion and doesn't help anything.
Exactly, and they don't care. Back in the day when these shows were popular on TV, it was hugely popular. They used their guests, and asked them to be as crazy and weird as possible, because they knew they would do it for the money. Jerry Springer, Maury, and whoever else out there did similar shows, didn't care about the guests. They just wanted "Must see TV". That was the 90s and 2000s for you. Nothing but show to make fun of people and their situations.
It's trash but it also gives you a look into just how buffoonish the average individual is.
It does, because a lot of the people who went on these shows, only did it for money. They would act differently in the pursuit of money. And sadly, it made people look bad. And I don't think any of the people on these shows, realized how it would look to the people in their lives. Like, what would your friends and family think if any of us went onto Jerry Springer to air our dirty laundry all the while acting like fools?
I'm guilty of watching jerry springer a lot as a kid. They're all dirty. jerry springer, maury povich, ricky lake, jenny jones, etc.
Exploiting black disfunction.
I am guilty as well. That's why I started the topic. I remember enjoying shows like it when I was a kid. Because I was young and dumb and thought anything was funny. Looking back, I see how awful people were treated on those shows, how they were paraded around for people to laugh at essentially. No one went to Jerry Springer to get down to the source of their issues, they went to make money and to unknowingly be used by these shows.
Yeah they typically take advantage of the Subconscious Coons. At the end of the day all we can do is not watch. I wrote about the type of people that be on Maury here:
Close your eyes and say the word “coon”…who immediately comes to mind? Is it Larry Elder, Herschel Walker, Candace Owens, Terry Crews or some other despicable character belonging to the pantheon of coonery? What if I told you that cooning is not some behavior reserved for the most uppity of tea...

I'll have to check that out.
So am i,the only problem now is we have social media that keeps the goofy ish going, every time i open my IG i see a black girl shaking her 4ss in the camera. modern day minstrel shows.
Hmm, Doesn't IG show you things based on your search and browsing history?
But I get what you mean. Social media is all about clout these days. Everyone and their moms want to be on IG shaking their asses. You'll see a lot of it on tiktok, instagram and even twitter.
Just because the shows are fading doesn't mean the behavior is going anywhere. I see nothing but clowns and trash being promoted on social media when it comes to black people. Like is this the only crap that goes viral for us?
Catfights, hoodrat dances in the streets, family disputes put on public display, dumb trends of theft and ignorance... The list keeps going. Not only is this bs trendy among white folks having a laugh at it but black people promote the same trash and some of them act like they are proud of it. I refuse to partake in it myself. They are just promoting the same stereotypes we have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Trash TV became trash trends on social media.
I don't get it. I think it's mostly to do with our youth. Kids are dumb as hell and think a lot of this stuff is funny. It is like with that trend going on in schools. Kids are literally stealing stuff from bathrooms and acting like it's the funniest thing and are posting it to social media.
The sad truth is that this stuff still gets views by the millions, if not more. And if it's paying somehow, people are going to use themselves to make more.
