Me, I'm personally an artist, not professional, but I enjoy doing art, and in the future I would've liked to acquire a job pertaining to artistry, but I've been quite demotivated by the recent advancements of AI art, and it's super scary how good it's becoming in such a short amount of time. I feel like in the future, artists will no longer be needed anymore; making being an artist solely a hobby, with no income being able to be made from your skillset. AI automation isn't only going to affect artists, but is going to affect all people who are involved in creative media, like music, writing, video creation, website development, etc... AI automation will take jobs just like automation did to factory working (even though not as controversial, it's an example).

Artists will eventually need to compete with AI art, I think that in the near future artists will start moving back to traditional paperback art, rather than digital art, because it's more authentic, and is something that AI art truly cannot replicate.

What are your opinions of automation?

Here's an AI generated image here for an example of what AI generated art is capable of accomplishing right now.

This may not be scary to you, maybe because you're not an artist, but to artists this is extremely terrifying. We are literally seeing our potential income slowly fade away to automated art. It may not be perfect, but give the AI learning a few decades, and then the AI art will be beyond what a individual artist can create, created in the matter of a few seconds! The AI art programs that are out now gets fed other artists art, and then it stores it inside of a large database to be used as a reference to create a totally new image all together. The more people feed these art programs, the better they become at making art, so they will advance pretty quickly over these coming years, and they will compete.

Wow that is a very nice graphic. You have a point, in 10 years it will be unstoppable.

I have seen some amazing work done by AI.

I think we are going to have to get to a point where we value physical art again or artists (digital ones) will not be able to earn much of anything in the future.
They’ll have to start stamping art “Certified Human-made”. It’ll end up signifying quality and adding a premium to the price.

Yep, physical art is going to be the old but new frontier for artists, It's sad that digital art is going to go down, but I hope that artists could keep their jobs with physical art.

Gotta find a way to adapt to changing technology.

I follow quite a few artists on Twitter and I'm already seeing threads showing AI generated art copying the style of some well known artists.

Needs to be reined in, because it's not looking good.

This is so disheartening to me, makes people not even feel special being an artist anymore. Your artsyle can be ripped by an AI bot at anytime, and there's quite literally nothing you can do about it, but sit there and watch it use your shit to make art that competes with your own human-made works.

The problem I have with AI art is that it utilizes others work of art in order to build their own. Some of the AI generated art out there is really impressive, and that worries me as I know people will start to say they did this digital piece of art on their own. We're going to see more people utilizing AI art to scam people, and steal from other artists while they're at it.

I think it takes away from the artists who actually work their asses off to make their own piece of art. AI isn't creating art itself, it's mixing and matching bits and pieces of other artworks out there to make something based on a prompt.

And it will continue to learn and get better, that's another issue with AI, it gets better at creating.

I thought it was cool for a bit, but now I'm worried about people abusing it and using it for their own needs.

Glad someone thinks the same, I'm baffled by the amount of disregard, and lack of sympathy alot of people have towards human artists. Some people just don't care about certain things, because it doesn't effect them immediately, which is bad, because this is the impetus for other creative centered media to be taken over by AI generated media.

Literally the most soulless shit ever.

Yep, it's inevitable. Getting better by the second. I'll probably try to go another career route, because it doesn't seem like being an artist will be at all lucrative in the future; gotta think for the long term.

Yep, that's actually already happening. They're making big profits off of alot of other peoples hard work, and skill that took years to develop, only for it to be recreated and slightly altered by a soulless AI in 2 seconds. It's infuriating.

Only way I can see this being combated is if artists, or people in general come together to illegalize AI generated artistic media; which is definitely not going to happen at all; especially in Am*rica.

I preferred when the awkward person here to hang out messy looking art, like the Dall-E thing that barely resembled real art. At least there it looked AI generated. But the stuff I'm seeing now days with how AI has improved, is crazy impressive with the things they're able to create. But I agree that it's taking away from the real artists out there, because this will be abused big time going forward, especially if it continues to improve. At some point we may not know what is real and AI generated.

I'm not sure what can really be done about it either. It comes down to the people making the AI generators I think. What I think they should do is add watermarks on the image to verify it's AI generated. Or something within the image to verify it's generated and not art. I think that would be a good step in stopping the current and future abuse of these generators.

And sadly, more of these AI generators are popping up. They're seems to be new ones coming out for mobile often.

Exactly. I think there will still be a lot of years left for digital artists but it really depends on the direction we go.

There are talks of Hollywood licensing actor and actress' appearances so they can use that deep fake tech to make movies. They won't need to hire anyone anymore. They will just use the already famous people's likenesses for a smaller fee.

Watermarks sounds like the only plausible solution to this problem, but should adding watermarks be taken to a federal level, and implemented as a strict law for AI generated artwork?

Yeah, hopefully that's the case, but I don't see DA's lasting for that long because AI's are already making digital art master pieces, matter of fact an AI generated image won a whole art competition: (AI generated art wins a competition link )

It is up to us. We should preserve human talent and not prop up tech generated things.

But at that point, I would not hold my breath. People are getting dumber by the day!

Live, in-person art creation, whether it be painting, drawing, dancing, poetry, music, is the last hope for artists.
In this world of ”social” media isolation and loneliness, human interaction is needed more than ever.
