It depends on who is saying it. For example, the Waffle House waitress will almost always call me "sugar" or "darlin'". That's acceptable, but I wouldn't want my barber or my dentist calling me that.
Also, I've had a few different girlfriends tell me that when I use their birth names instead of the pet names I give them, that makes them sad.

Yeah I don't like pet names from women I'm not dating but if it's an older lady or something I give it a pass.

I used to interpret terms like honey as a come on in my younger years and would be confused with the lady in question would reject my advances. I later learned that some people just use those terms for everyone. It’s strange and unless you’re my honey, don’t call me honey.

My wife calls me bae and I fukkin hate it. I dont ever say nothing though.… that’s not my name. I know it sounds stupid and I might be wrong but I feel like when somebody gives you such a generic pet name they called somebody else that before or would have very well called whoever they would be talking talking to that. It’s not special or unique to me and I don’t like it.

Edit: at least it’s not “sweetie” please don’t ever call me that.

Overall I don't mind them but it really depends on the context. There is a time and a place to use this kind of dialog. I work at a clinic and some older coworkers, especially the ladies, will throw around "sweety" or "honey" and that is fine but you won't hear the doctors talking like this to patients or staff. I grew up in a community with a lot of older folks around so I guess I just got used to it.

I am not too fond of it personally, but I try not to get neurotic about it.... I guess I do though, because most mens I date do not address me like that.. Up until recently, and this guy purposely does it because he knows it's annoying to me.. you can imagine how far he will go with that!!

Doesn't bug me if it's my girl saying it. I also don't mind when my mom calls me honey for example, cause she says that to everyone anyway. But yeah, if it's some random lady on the street, idk how I'd react. If we were into each other, that'd be different I imagine.

I don't like all pet names though. There are some out there that I wouldn't want to be called. Honey, babe, etc is fine. But it's gotta be from my girl and not some random.
