Been a while since I spoke you family. Hope this finds everyone well.

Was meditating and recalibrating my mind to some music the last few days. It made me think of who my top 5 shredders are.

1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Prince
3. Eddie Van Halen
4. Lenny Kravitz
5. Slash

Who would make your top 5 list?
DAMN.

Dass a SERIOUS LIST, and if I get REAL about it? It can only be argued with cats ALSO on that level...

1. PRINCE.
2. Ernie Isley.
3. Stevie Ray Vaughn.
4. Greg "G Mack" Lawrence.
5. Eddie Van Halen.

Where should I post REAL RELATIONSHIP STUFF? As in, is there a way to navigate to a specific area like that...

Since I’m a Bass Player I will also include my top 5 Bass Players:

    1. Louis Johnson
    2. Victor Wooten
    3. Marcus Miller
    4. Larry Graham
    5. Bernard Edwards

    My top 5 Guitarists

    1. Nile Rodgers - His guitar playing is so clean and unique…his work on Chic albums puts me in a trance. His playing on Sometimes You Win is freaking golden, no one plays like that.
    2. Jimi Hendrix
    3. Chuck Berry
    4. BB King
    5. Prince

I like Chuck Berry too. BB King when I'm in the mood for blues.

This is a solid list. I sometimes don’t think Lenny Kravitz gets his flowers.

I also like that Slash is immortalized by playing a solo on the Greatest Black American Artist of all time’s song In Beat It. Also Louis Johnson also played the Bassline on Billie Jean…it’s cool how these GOATS all intersect/

I like Chuck Berry too. BB King when I'm in the mood for blues.
Me too, I have to be in the mood for Blues which is never. But I respect his skill and what he did at the time. Sometimes I’ll listen to someone and look at their playing as basic but it’s because I was raised listening to 40 years of additions on their innovations. I like to think of BB King in his time and how dope he was…it’s like Rakim. There’s a bunch of Rakims now but back when he came out that shit was so foreign and innovative.

Yeah Mike loved Slash's work. He did the Guitar work on "Black or White" too I think. One the coldest truths I read from Slash (I think it was an excerpt from an autobiography or something, I'll have to google it and find it again) was he mentioned how he found it amusing as a musician to be both british and black because american musicians seemed to aspire to be british and british musicians especially in the 60s went to great lengths and pains to be black.

mjlolWhat you mean by cheatin you wanna take this outside bruh?

But I’m all seriousness I can‘t hate on anyone on your list. There’s so many great musicians that a Top 5 is kind of impossible at least for me. To have a real top 5 I would have to separate by genre. Because I may like Louis McCall or Anderson Paak on the drums but how can I have a too 5 without Gene Hoglan on the Double Kick Pedal?

I think my Bench would be: Brian May, Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, Ernie Isley, and Carlos Santana
Those are all GOATS. I might need to revamp my list. I forgot Carlos Santana, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Say less, I already got another post in this category on favorite guitar solos. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of my all time faves because of him.
I don't think Prince's guitar ever came back down at the end. He sent it back to God and pimped off the stage!

Nope just an enormous admirer of those who can. I played piano growing up even though I really wanted to learn saxophone but when you're a kid and don't pay bills, your parents make the rules.
    I know that's right!

Without Jimi Hendrix there would be no hard rock guitar. He literally invented the genre.

Chuck Barry, along with Fats Domino are the true creators of rock n roll.

My third choice would be George Benson.

Shout out to Larry Graham because I knew his father-in-law.

    Finally, Prince.
